This week on the DVD shelves we have Priest, Something Borrowed, and Hoodwinked Too.
I didn't get to the cinema to see Priest, even though it looked pretty decent. I did get a chance to see the film the other day and let me say...wow. The movie is pretty generic and cliche, but there are some good qualities and even more bad. Firstly, the premise is a little dumb. Having priests that are trained killers and top notch fighters is almost an oxymoron considering they still have to adhere to the celibacy vow and all. Secondly, the acting is just decent. Some actors are better than others and one person in particular is pretty bad, but what do you expect, this wasn't a multi-million dollar film....oh wait. One thing that I will tell you that is a slight spoiler, but nothing major, that I loathed, is one priest runs really fast and another priest throws stones that the first priest uses as steps while he's midair. I don't know who thought of this, but I'm sure they were sitting around thinking that it would be really cool and original, but it didn't come out that way. It was really dumb looking. The things that I did like about the film are the fact that the vampires weren't the typical Hollywood vampires, they were demon looking creatures with no eyes. There is also a mention of the old saying that the eyes are windows to the soul and since they have no eyes, ipso facto they have no souls. Also, Karl Urban is a cool dude in almost every role I've seen him in. I don't feel comfortable suggesting this film to you because it's not that good, but it's not that bad either. It's pretty generic and cliche, like I mentioned already. If you've got 1.5 hours to kill and wanna see people killing stuff and other people getting ripped into pieces, you can pop in this film.
Something Borrowed I've already stated how I feel about this film and it can be viewed here.
Hoodwinked Too looks pretty average, but I haven't seen the first one. It's odd that I haven't seen a CGI cartoon film, I like the genre and I have a small kid, which means I will see almost all of the films that come out. Anyway, this film looks decent, but I'm sick of seeing the same plots used for everything and this movie has elements that have already been in other CGI films. The name also really is dumb too. Using a different spelling of "Two" makes the title grammatically wrong. I'm not the best writer nor am I an English teacher, but come on...
