This week on DVD - August 23: Trollhunter, Blitz, and The Beaver.

This week on DVD we have The Troll Hunter, Blitz, and The Beaver.

The Troll Hunter looks interesting because it's a film about a "real" event of people catching a giant troll on camera, but the storyline is centered around a Blair Witch & Paranormal Activity style point of view. I haven't had a chance to see this yet, but I do want to watch it because it looks like the B-grade movies of old, but with better special effects.

I'll be honest and say that I've never heard of Blitz, but do you need to know the title of any Jason Statham movie. All you need to know is he is going to kick someone's ass who deserves it...THE END. I'm not saying all Statham films are the same, but let's face it, most of them are. I usually complain that actors are pigeonholed into doing the same things over and over, but with Statham, I think it's fine. Do you really wanna see him doing Shakespeare? Or a rom-com? I sure as hell don't.

When Mel Gibson is in a film nowadays, it automatically has publicity because of the inordinate amount of controversy that surrounds the actor outside of any film. Between him crazily ranting or leaving insane messages on his wife/girlfriend/woman's voicemail, we hear something new about Gibson all the time. That's neither here nor there when it comes to films. He's been acting for all of my life and he's been in some classic films too, so you can't deny his credentials, but alas that's not how the world works and people care more about his personal life than whether the film is good or not. My rant was neither crazy nor did it have anything to do with the film we're supposed to be talking about, but oh well. I haven't seen this film, but the premise is a little interesting. Apparently Gibson's character has a mental breakdown and uses a beaver hand puppet as his means of communication. Is this foreshadowing Mel Gibson's future?
