Flop, flop, flop...the sound of a dying fish or my desire to see either of these films.
Rock of Ages looks almost tolerable...for a musical that has throwback rock music. The film has a ton of stars, which can be cool or completely ruin the film. I personally don't care. I'm not the type that gets into musicals. I prefer the goofy, funny musicals like Cannibal! The Musical, Rocky Horror, or Dr. Horrible. Those three are witty and fun with enough goof to be interesting. The point is they don't take themselves too seriously and that's what I love about them. I think Rock of Ages has a little bit of that, but it's probably more of a true musical than I prefer.
That's My Boy is the next failing chapter in a long line of Adam Sandler films. This film just happens to have Andy Samberg in it, whom I believe left SNL for a career in the big leagues. At least that's what I read somewhere, I could be wrong. I just know there's a huge debate that's raged on for many decades about SNL cast members that have tried to go mainstream. Some have failed badly, while others crank out hits like female pop singers.
