Well, well, well, we meet again Hollywood. I see what you're doing there. With your odd variety of movies. This week we have The Artist, Mirror Mirror, Wrath of the Titans, 21 Jump Street and A Thousand Words.
The Artist won several awards because it's a silent black and white film and the awards people are old...I mean it's a French film and the awards people are old...CRAP!!! What I really mean is that the plot actually sounds pretty decent, but there's something off-putting about the film. I can dig a silent film, I love foreign films and I never watch them in overdubbed English, I watch them with subtitles, so that's not an issue. I might check it out just because it's so highly praised.
Mirror Mirror is the less popular equivalent of Snow White and the Huntsman. It's got Sean Bean in it and the big question is how long before he's killed? If you don't get that reference then we're on separate pages of different books.
Wrath of the Titans is the CGI sequel to a bad remake of a classic film. I watched this movie this morning and wow, just wow. Despite being heavily laden with CGI that looks pretty damned good, the film is pretty boring and simplistic. I just wanted an eyegasm and that's all it is, pretty colors.
21 Jump Street is a reboot of the television show that made Johnny Depp very popular. I thought the film was going to be an atrocity to my senses, but it is one of the funniest films I've seen in a long time. It was very enjoyable, especially considering that I'm not a fan of C-Tate...AT ALL. I'd prefer if the guy never acted again...unless it's movies like this one. He plays the role very well and Jonah Hill does what he does best as comedic sidekick. Out of everything that was released today, I would suggest this movie.
A Thousand Words stars Eddie Murphy. Do I need to say any more? Murphy can speak a thousand words in less than a minute and still not be funny. He's lost his comedic touch. He is no where as funny as when he was younger, but that's what happens when comedians grow up, they try to talk about grown up problems or they try to still be act like children...which usually ends badly.
