This week at the Cinema - August 12: The Help, Final Destination 5, 30 Minutes or Less, and Glee 3D

This week at the theatre we have The Help, Final Destination 5, 30 Minutes or Less, and Glee 3D.

The Help looks like it's trying to hard. The film is set in the 1960's in Mississippi, which it automatically means that it has a lot of racial overtones, but it centers around Emma Stone's character, Skeeter, and her unorthodox relationship with "The Help" and something about writing...I don't know, that's as far as I got into the synopsis and was already moving on.

Final Destination 5
is the newest edition of the same old recycled crap...I mean, it's part five of this epic adventure. The first Final Destination film was cool because it was original and interesting...and graphically violent, but this is the fifth film and there isn't anything new that can happen. It's the same plot in every one!!! Seriously, at the beginning of every one of these films, someone sees a tragedy and somehow avoids it, then death kills each of them in the exact order that they would have died. It was interesting the first time, now it's just played out.

30 Minutes or Less has the potential to be pretty funny, but I'm not sure how it'll play out. The idea and premise are ripe with comedic potential and the film is well cast for a comedy. The four main guys in this film, on their own, are funny, I only hope that together they can bring the humor to an all time high, but I doubt it. Something about the film just looks a little bland even with the comedic potential.

Glee: The 3D Concert Movie will never poison my eyes. I have no desire to watch the show nor watch an elongated version on the silver screen....in 3D. First, let me say that singing should come in moderation and from what I can tell from the show, it has too much. Secondly, I'm not the only one that's sick of 3D. Honestly, there is only a handful of films that have benefitted from the use of 3D, one being Avatar and the others being animated films such as How to Train Your Dragon, but for the most part, 3D is used to up the price of the ticket and make more cash for the studio. Most live action films do not benefit from the addition of 3D and most are not even shot in real 3D, they're done in post processing and it shows because the 3D is an arbitrary addition that no one appreciates.
